Come support Alexia Barrier who will set sail on January 11th, 2010, for a round-the-world solo on board "4MyPlanet".
The challenge taken up by Alexia Barrier is to complete a Round-the-World trip demonstrating that a sailing yacht is now capable of navigating with zero production of CO² ! An ambitious project christened “4MyPlanet”.
This young sailor, a member of Monaco’s Yacht Club, has undertaken not to take on board any fossil-based form of energy throughout her 110-day voyage.
Her 60-foot racing yacht will be a high-tech laboratory in which various solutions and technologies will be tested under ocean conditions. The fuel-based engine will be replaced by an electric engine, and a fuel cell will join the classic gear (for this type of yacht).
Alexia Barrier will thus be the first skipper to test this kind of electric engine at worldwide scale, a principle recently imposed by the organising committee of Alexia’s goal, the future “Vendée Globe” event scheduled for 2012/2013.
Departure set for 11 a.m. on January 11th, 2010, from the Place du Palais on the Port of Monaco (departure of the yacht).
